South Africa are struggling to stay afloat vs Australia Down Under. They lost the first Test in 2 days and are pretty much on the back foot in the 2nd. This is good news for India as far as the WTC final is concerned.
Australia have virtually assured themselves a place and are currently topping the charts. India’s recent 2-0 whitewash vs Bangladesh pushed them up to 2nd place, dislodging South Africa. The only others in contention are Sri Lanka.

South Africa’s poor show in Australia only consolidates India’s No. 2 spot. Remember, the top 2 sides face off in the final in June 2023. The cutoff date to qualify is March 31.

India’s next series is at home vs Australia and that is crucial. If India win 3-1 or 3-0 then they have a shot at the title. But they must ensure that they do not drop crucial points.
India made it to the final in the first edition in 2021 but lost to New Zealand. New Zealand are already out of the race.
