World Record Attempt At Palm Springs 85th Anniversary Car Show 2023

PALM SPRINGS, CA — A Guinness Book of World Records attempt will be made this weekend at the Palm Springs 85th Anniversary Classic Car Parade. There, 85 classic cars, one representing each year since the city’s incorporation, will line up in an attempt to achieve a new world record.

“No city has accomplished the feat of having so many cars marking 85 years in one place,” said Palm Springs communications director Amy Blaisdell on the website established for the event. A Guinness World Records adjudicator will be present to record the feat, according to Blaisdell.

Dubbed “Cruising Through the Years,” the parade will get in gear at 11:30 a.m. along Amado Road from the Palm Springs Convention Center to the Downtown Park, Blaisdell said.

Some famous faces will sit in the cars, and in the grandstands, according to the city.

Look for Nancy Sinatra, the daughter of Frank Sinatra, who will be the celebrity grand marshal in the parade. She will be joined by notable local celebrities, community leaders and city pioneers, according to Blaisdell. Also present will be football legend Fred “The Hammer” Williamson, supermodel Beverly Johnson, philanthropist Harold Matzner, and Palm Springs International Film Festival chairman Charlie Pasarell. Tennis legend Rosie Casals is among the few expected to join Sinatra in riding the parade’s classic cars.

Palm Springs Mayor Grace Garner discussed the coming attempt.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have the fabulous Nancy Sinatra and so many other local celebrities, community leaders and pioneers join us for what is sure to be an epic parade and incredible day celebrating 85 years of the magic that makes Palm Springs like no place else,” Garner said.

According to Blaisdell, participants will ride in 85 classic cars dating back to 1938, when the city was incorporated. Attendees are encouraged to photograph themselves with the vehicle representing the year they were born.

“Our 85th Anniversary Classic Car Parade & Show is sure to go down in the history books,” organizer and founder of Palm Springs Exotic Car Auctions Keith McCormick said. “No other city that I know of has ever had 85 cars representing 85 years all in one place.”

The parade will be followed by various festivities, including an opening ceremony at 12:30 p.m., a car show and DJ set at 1 p.m., a canine celebrity costume contest at 6 p.m. and an Elton John Tribute Concert at 7 p.m. to end the night.
