West Ham would ‘love’ to sign Tammy Abraham as Chelsea tipped not to sell striker despite Thomas Tuchel squad axe for West Brom humbling

That’s according to former Southampton and Republic of Ireland forward David Connolly, who was ‘surprised’ by Thomas Tuchel’s decision to leave the England international out of the Blues’ matchday squad for Saturday’s shock 5-2 defeat against West Brom.

Abraham has started just three Premier League matches since Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in the Stamford Bridge dugout back in January.

The 23-year-old has just two years left on his contract as Chelsea have been linked with summer moves for Romelu Lukaku and Erling Haaland.

And Connolly believes West Ham would be an ideal fit for Abraham, who is Chelsea’s top scorer with 12 goals this season.

He told talkSPORT: “Tammy would certainly want to be playing, that’s for sure.

“It’s not as if Timo Werner is ripping it up at this moment in time. He really isn’t. [Olivier] Giroud is in and out of the team.

“Despite those lack of goals, to still not get on the bench, a player of Tammy’s ability, is a real surprise.

“West Ham would love him! They need another striker. They’re very reliant on Michail Antonio, but I can’t see Chelsea selling Tammy Abraham.

“Whether Tuchel wants a response… some managers might just want a response. Maybe he needs to do a bit more in training as well.

“You just hope he’s not spitting his dummy out because he’s not involved and that he’s showing the right attitude. This might be him sitting on the naughty step for a little bit.”

After Chelsea’s humbling to the relegation-threatened Baggies, Tuchel revealed Abraham did not miss the match because of an injury.

“He was not in the squad. I have to nominate 18 players,” Tuchel told talkSPORT.
