Valentin Rongier attempting to force move to Marseille

Speaking to Presse-Océan yesterday, Nantes captain Valentin Rongier went on the record to confirm his desire to force a move to fellow Ligue 1 side Marseille before Monday’s deadline.

Marseille made a formal €11m proposal to Nantes yesterday for the player, which falls well below their €20m valuation. What’s worse, the bid was made to be paid in several instalments, with the minority of the fee to be received upfront. L’Équipe believe that an offer of €15m should be enough to complete the deal.

Rongier explained why he would not be playing against Montpellier this weekend:

“This is in no way me trying to force myself out. I get on very well with the board and there is no problem. Simply, there is now a concrete offer from Marseille and I do not want to take the risk of injuring myself. I am right in my way and nobody can reproach me for a lack of respect towards the institution (Nantes). Even today, I am giving everything at training. I find it to be a shame that fans think that I am not attached to this club because that is not true. It is normal that some of them think that but I am still giving my all. But there is a concrete offer from Marseille, a club that I want to join. So yes, I called the coach to ask him not to play me vs Montpellier, so that I don’t risk an injury.”
