Soft Opening Delayed For Pickleball America In Stamford

STAMFORD, CT — The soft opening for Pickleball America, a mega, 80,000 square-foot facility at the Stamford Town Center, has been postponed due to an “unforeseen delay.”

The facility was originally slated to open on Monday.

“Stay tuned for new dates & time,” an emailed announcement from Pickleball America said on Monday afternoon. “We look forward to welcoming you to our space soon.”

One of the founders of Pickleball America, Mia Schipani, told Patch the soft opening will now take place closer to the end of July.

Billed as one of the largest indoor pickleball venues in the United States, Pickleball America will house 27 indoor pickleball courts, lockers, showers, a lounge, café, and an area for childcare.

The venue will partner with a number of professional associations, leagues and clubs, as well as the USA Pickleball Ambassadors and coaches in the tri-state area to offer private and group instruction and facilitate league play.

The courts will be rolled out in two phases in the space formerly occupied by Saks Off 5th, which closed in 2021.

Phase 1 will begin immediately with 13 courts in 38,000 square feet on the first floor. The second floor, encompassing 42,000 square feet and 14 courts as part of phase 2, will open at some point in the near future, Schipani said.

Created by local Stamford professionals Jay Waldner, Joseph Schipani, Mia Schipani and Jay Ross, the four joined forces to launch a “sports-tainment” center focused on pickleball, which is considered one of the fastest growing sports in the world.

According to a report released earlier this year from the Association of Pickleball Professionals, more than 36.5 million people played pickleball at least once from August 2021 to August 2022.
