QUEENS, NY — A Queens pimp who watched the serial killer show “Dexter” for tips on how to dismember a body has been convicted of murdering a woman and sawing her into pieces, prosecutors said.
Federal jurors found Cory Martin, 36, guilty Monday on all counts, including murder-for-hire, in the death of Brandy Odom, authorities said.
Martin faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison.

“It is fitting that that Martin faces a mandatory sentence to spend the rest of his
life in prison for this ghastly, cold-blooded crime that was motivated by greed and executed after extensive planning,” said U.S. Attorney Breon Peace, in a statement.
“Martin saw the victim as a moneymaker, trafficking her for commercial sex, then after killing her with his bare hands, tossing out her slaughtered body parts like trash so he could profit from her death.”

Prosecutors said Martin and an unknown co-conspirator lived in a Rosedale home with Odom, a then-26-year-old woman who engaged in sex work. Martin was the pimp to both Odom and the co-conspirator, authorities said.
Martin and his co-conspirator fraudulently took out two life insurance policies in Odom’s name, prosecutors said. They also both watched the true crime television show “The First 48” for tips on how to avoid getting caught by police, authorities said.
But the show “Dexter” ― about a fictional serial killer who sets up plastic-lined rooms to murder and dismember people — appeared to mirror, perhaps inspire, the killing to come.
The co-conspirator testified that Martin was “looking for ways to commit the crime when he got rid of Brandy,” prosecutors said.
Martin eventually strangled Odom in April 2018 inside her bedroom, authorities said. He then bought cleaning supplies, a vacuum and an electric saw to dismember Odom’s body inside a bathtub — and all within a room with lined with black plastic garbage bags, prosecutors said.
Authorities said Martin and his co-conspirator dumped Odom’s body parts in Canarsie Park, where a dog walker later found them.
The discovery made headlines citywide in 2018 and inspired a candlelight vigil in the park, Patch reported at the time.
“They keep finding these bits and pieces,” Odom’s mother said at the vigil. “I don’t know who in their right mind would want to do this to my child except Satan himself.”
