Following a seventh-place finish in Ligue 2 this past season, FC Lorient have begun to bring in reinforcements. The Breton club will be looking to make a strong push for promotion to Ligue 1 next season, and the signing of right back Jonathan Martins Pereira on a free will bring significant improvement to the team. Martins Pereira joins on a two-year deal after his contract expired with fellow Breton club EA Guingamp.

Lorient’s new man will add consistency and experience to the Ligue 2 side. At 32-years-old, the French right back has been under contract with Nantes, Troyes, Lens, Amiens, Ajaccio, and Guingamp. Martins Pereira saw a large part of his career success up until this point in Guingamp, where he was a member of the Coupe de France winning squad in 2013/14.

In Lorient’s official announcement for its new signing, Martins Pereira added a few words. The Frenchman remarked on his delight in joining the Breton club, and praised the side’s project, saying “The challenge proposed by the club is ambitious, pleasurable, and motivating. I hope that we will be able to rise to it thereby reaching our objectives.”

Manager Mickaël Landreau was equally excited with the arrival of Martins Pereira, calling the right back a “team player with a superb mindset.” Landreau also noted the benefits of his new signing’s significant playing career, continuing, “Combative and generous, he also has a lot of experience and knows Ligue 2 perfectly.”

An accomplished addition like Martins Pereira very well might be what Lorient need to return to Ligue 1 after relegation in 2017. The seasoned right-back will be joining up with the club immediately and is expected to participate in the first training session of the 2018/19 season on June 20th.
