Mbappe wants Olympic gold to go with World Cup winners' medal

The Paris Saint-Germain forward has already conquered the global game with France, but he is determined to any many more honours to his collection

Kylian Mbappe has aired his intention to add more major international prizes to his World Cup winners’ medal, with European Championship glory and an Olympic gold in his sights.

The 19-year-old forward savoured global glory with France over the summer, as they swept aside all before them on Russian soil.

Mbappe starred as part of that side, with his efforts landing him the coveted Best Young Player award and a nomination for the 2018 Ballon d’Or.

He has also taken in a number of domestic triumphs with Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain, including two Ligue 1 titles, but there remain plenty of targets for him to chase down.

Mbappe is currently a club colleague of Brazilian stars Neymar and Marquinhos and is determined to emulate their Olympic efforts from the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro.

He told RMC Sport: “I still have a lot of things to do.

“I want to accomplish everything.

“With France, I still have the European Championship to win. I would also, why not, like to compete in the Olympics.

“Then, with PSG, we all know what [the Champions League] is missing there.”

Mbappe may have added to his haul of individual prizes by the time his next shot at collective glory comes along.

He is considered to be among the leading contenders to land the Ballon d’Or, with it possible that the 10-year duopoly enjoyed by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo could be broken on December 3.

There are number of other hopefuls, including FIFA Best winner Luka Modric and Mbappe’s France international team-mates Antoine Griezmann and Raphael Varane.

PSG’s promising frontman is reluctant to place himself that category at present, despite his high billing, with talk of potential successes in prestigious votes being ignored for now.

Mbappe added: “Ballon d’Or talk is unwelcome here. We can talk about that at a later date.”

The youngster’s exploits for club and country continue to keep him in that conversation, though, with 10 goals recorded in just seven appearances for PSG this season.

He has also taken his international tally to 10 in 25 outings after netting in a 2-2 friendly draw with Iceland in Guingamp.
