Manchester United will NOT sign former Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente in free transfer

Manchester United will not be signing former Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente, according to reports.

Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claimed the Spaniard has signed a two-year deal with the Red Devils to replace Romelu Lukaku, who joined Inter Milan for £72million earlier this summer.

However, the Daily Mail say United are unlikely to make an offer for the 34-year-old with no plans to sign him any time soon.

Llorente has been without a club since leaving Spurs when his contract expired at the end of last season.

He joined Tottenham in a £12million deal from Swansea in 2017 but played second fiddle to Harry Kane in north London, scoring just 13 goals in 66 games.

United failed in their attempts to sign Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala in the latter stages of the summer transfer window.

Nonetheless, earlier this month manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appeared to be content with his forward options, confirming 17-year-old Mason Greenwood would be part of his first-team plans this season.

He said: “It was time now for Rom [Lukaku] to go because I think we got a good deal, he’s happy, so I think both parties ended that deal as it should be.

“Rom was injured for a while this pre-season, he didn’t participate, so I just hope for him that he’ll get a good start at Inter Milan.
