Long Beach Man's Mysterious Death Ruled A Homicide

LONG BEACH, CA — A Long Beach Man’s mysterious death was determined a homicide Monday after a ruling from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner/Coroner.

According to police, officers responded to a man in need of medical attention at about 3:18 p.m. Wednesday. When officers arrived, Long Beach Fire paramedics had already declared the man, 59-year-old Anthony Mercy, dead at the scene.

LBPD officers said Mercy had injuries that could possibly be related to his death, but the exact cause of death is unknown at this time. The official cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner/Coroner.

Preliminary investigation suggests that Mercy was possibly involved in a fight of some sort on Tuesday in the area of 14th Street Park and Seaside Park, investigators said.

Detectives said additional information about the incident was still needed and urged anyone who may have observed any altercations in the area on Nov. 28 to come forward.
