Liverpool face High Court battle with New Balance over possible Nike kit deal

The Reds are understood to have agreed a deal with sportswear giant Nike worth a stunning £70million-a-year, which would make the deal, beginning at the start of next season, the biggest in the club’s history.

Liverpool are currently associated with New Balance, whom became their sponsor in 2011, but their £50m-a-year deal expires at the end of the campaign.

However, according to The Athletic, the Boston-based company insist they have a clause in the deal which means Liverpool must make them aware of any rival offers and give them the opportunity to match the offer.

New Balance has since filed a dispute at the High Court with Liverpool adamant there was no clause in the contract.

A Liverpool spokesperson told The Athletic: “We can confirm that our kit supplier, New Balance, has commenced a legal dispute against the club. We will not be making any further comment during these legal proceedings.”
