League Of Women Voters Seeks Volunteers To Help Students Register

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Volunteers are needed to help high school students register to vote.

The League of Women Voters of White Plains is beginning its spring student voter registration activities at local high schools and Westchester Community College.

The league said it’s one of the organization’s most popular initiatives, and the public is invited to participate.

Volunteers will help students navigate the registration process and distribute and collect materials and forms.

Program coordinators will be in all classes to lead lessons and at tables to register.

Alan Cass and Beth Kava, the co-chairs of the league’s “Vote 18” Committee, told Patch that voter registration was critical to spurring young people to get and stay involved.

The league “believes we all have a role to play in inspiring and empowering young Americans to register and vote,” they said.

This popular initiative also provides students with the opportunity to engage with other community organizations we partner with, such as the local NAACP chapter, the Alpha Kappa Alpha women’s sorority in our area and the Westchester Women’s Agenda, Cass and Kava said.

“This year’s program is seeking to further student engagement through student-created messaging in peer-to-peer communication that will amplify their voices in getting youth to register to vote,” they said.

The deadline to sign up for volunteering is March 20, and specific times and other information will be emailed to volunteers.
