NEW CANAAN, CT — With the trial of Michelle Troconis set to begin on Thursday in Stamford Superior Court, the family and friends of the late Jennifer Farber Dulos said they’re not looking for closure, but instead they want “accountability and answers.”
Troconis is charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the disappearance and death of Jennifer Dulos, who vanished from her New Canaan home on May 24, 2019. Jennifer’s body has not been found, and a probate judge recently declared her deceased.
“It has been more than four years and seven months since Jennifer Farber Dulos was murdered and disappeared,” said Carrie Luft, spokesperson for the Farber family and friends of Jennifer, in a statement Wednesday. “We, her family and friends, have waited patiently, understanding that the justice process moves slowly and deliberatively, especially given the disruption of a global pandemic.

“We remain deeply grateful to the state’s attorney’s office, the Connecticut State Police, and the
New Canaan Police for their tireless dedication to this case and the related, ongoing criminal
investigation.”
Law enforcement and prosecutors believe Jennifer Dulos was kidnapped and murdered by her estranged husband, the late Fotis Dulos, who was charged with the crime. He never stood trial, because he took his own life in January 2020. The Duloses were going through a difficult divorce and custody battle at the time of Jennifer’s disappearance.

Troconis, Fotis’ girlfriend at the time, and fellow suspect Kent Mawhinney, a former attorney and friend of Fotis’, are accused of assisting Fotis in the murder plot and cover-up, and both have pleaded not guilty.

Mawhinney is expected to testify against Troconis; his trial on the charge of conspiracy to commit murder has not yet been scheduled.
“As this trial begins, it is crucial to remember who is at the center: Jennifer, whose five children
have lost their mother and, as an eventuality, both parents,” Luft said. “Jennifer’s family and loved ones have lost a loving daughter, sister, cousin, and lifelong friend. We do not seek closure, as nothing can bring Jennifer back. Our hope is that this trial provides for accountability and answers.”
In an email to Patch, Luft said she will be regularly attending the Troconis trial, and “other family and friends will attend throughout.”
Troconis was with Fotis Dulos in May 2019 when he is believed to have discarded evidence in the Hartford area from the murder, and both Troconis and Mawhinney are accused of helping Fotis craft “alibi scripts” afterward.
“As this trial gets underway, we ask that you prioritize and respect the privacy of Jennifer’s family
and loved ones,” Luft said. “Thank you.”
