CENTER MORICHES, NY — A beloved tradition returns Sunday as the Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches presents the 21st Annual Center Moriches St. Patrick’s Day Parade, featuring George Keller as 2024 Grand Marshal.
The parade steps off promptly at 2 p.m. on Main Street in Center Moriches, wending its way from Lake Avenue, then proceeding east to Ocean Avenue. This year’s theme is “Irish Folklore.”
Keller, along with his wife Terry and their sons Frederick and Patrick — and now, their two grandsons — have long been familiar faces on the Center Moriches canvas.

Keller has served many roles in the community, as a coach, with the Knights of Columbus, at his church, St. John the Evangelist — and a beloved member of Boy Scout Troop 414, where his leadership and guidance have shaped countless lives through his patient tutelage and life lessons taught at Boy Scout camp. Scores of Scouts remember “Mr. Keller,” and his role on their journey toward Eagle Scout. He’s served almost every post with the troop and is now a committee chairman, a position he’s held for some time.
“I was very surprised when I was asked to be the grand marshal,” Keller said. “It’s such a wonderful honor that they considered me worthy of being the grand marshal. It’s been a very humbling experience.”

He added, forever humble: “I never considered anything I did special, I just help people out wherever they needed help, anytime I was able to. So, yes, this is quite surprising to me.”
