Fashionable 90s-Inspired Outfit Ideas

Let’s re-live the nineties with these fashion trends after normcore re-emerges in AW14, from miniskirts and flare pants ala Spice Girls or rocking it with Doc Martens. Grab your tattoo chokers because here’s your trend guide on how to rock the original take on ironic “normal” nineties fashion.

Before our beloved skinny jeans, there were flared jeans/trousers.

Denim on denim is a style that grew up with us. It somehow evolved and if styled correctly, we wouldn’t look like denim puked on us (Just like what Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake wore to the MTV VMAs in the 90s).

A casual weekend that includes loose tank tops, tucked in mesh midi skirt and a cardigan. And of course, socks were super cool back in the day. nobody worn trainers without socks.

Back in the day, dresses were layered with plain white shirts. If you do that, then you should also wear your combat boots with the outfit.

Dark blue acid wash denim mini skirt, a bold sunflower top, with black leather tassel loafers.

High waist mom jeans with roll neck top, bowler hat and chunky heeled cross-strap Mary Jane was what our moms used to wear when they head out for errands and such. But we fully adopted to this style now but making it a little better.

Culottes are the bomb. You can easily tuck in whatever top you have, you can even wear a cropped top and it’ll instantly make you look chic.

Another way to style your DMs back in the day was by wearing printed trousers with your cropped top or bandeau then layer it with either a coat, a thick jacket with chokers and messy hair.

Mixing and matching was on fleek back in the day, even today— a shirt paired with a fluffy mini skirt in soft pink and cleated sole platform ankle boots. It’s called pastel grunge.

Must you forget about the preppy grungy plaid look inspired by the movie Clueless?
