PITTSBURGH, PA — In a stunning upset, Pittsburgh’s sole representative in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament defeated BYU Thursday 71-67 in Omaha, NE.
Duquesne was a number 11 seed in the tournament, BYU was a sixth seed. Duquesne was a 9.5 point underdog going into the game.
The Dukes were making their first tournament appearance since 1977. The victory was their first tournament win since 1969.

Duquesne players said prior to the game that they were extra motivated to win after coach Keith Dambrot announced his impending retirement this week at the season’s conclusion.
