Travelling to the UK – Outfit Ideas

Many say that most of Western Europe doesn’t really have any dress code and that anything is acceptable. The weather in the United Kingdom is changeable and unpredictable. The British fashion is kind of defined by their weather. So when the man tells you that it will be sunny throughout the week, don’t believe it. Be prepared for the shower. Want to know more? Check out some outfit ideas and how to enjoy your trip to the UK despite the crappy weather because did you know that you will be able to experience all four seasons in just one day?

If you don’t want to stick out like a sore thumb, avoid wearing your dSLR around your neck, holding a guidebook in your left hand, a map on your right, a pair of walking boots, a backpack in the middle of London. It will not only scream “tourist” but will absolutely make you a target for pick-pocketing and the like. Try to blend in with the locals.

British fashion isn’t as chic as French, not as slouchy as American and not as zany as Australian. They dress whatever they like, most of the time. We’ve seen people wear a penguin costume in the tube and nobody bats an eye on him.

Waterproof jacket is a must, even when it’s spring and summer because London can be pretty cold and wet by then. Also, if you don’t want to get wet, a handy umbrella is one you should carry around you as well.

You can wear and pack shorts in the summer because you’re going to be seeing other tourists and locals wear shorts if it’s hot enough.

For your shoes, go with what’s comfortable. No need to be super fashionable about it. Pack some flat sandals, some trendy boots and sneakers that you wouldn’t mind getting wet, just in case.

Jeans are popular and are very versatile. You can style it with layering. The key here is to layer pieces and give you warmth, especially on the transition period between winter and summer which is spring. That will be from March until May.

Always bring some accessories like a scarf, some hat and tights. While skirts could be fun, it’ll still be cold and maybe tights could help you with that.

Summer is from June to August but while summer can be warm, it can also be very wet. Always check the weather the week of your trip before heading to the UK so you can get an actual forecast.

Cute dresses, hats and sunglasses, bright and bold accessories and outfits – but still you need to consider layering. Nothing too heavy, though. Maybe a cardigan and a scarf will do.

When you head to other regions of the UK, it would be helpful to have appropriate footwear with good ankle support. Sturdy sneakers and walking shoes should be fine in dry places but boots with good grips will be great in wet and muddy places.
