When it comes to dressing well, men with muscle, width, and just plain size should always remember a few things. There is no size limit to style, but taking the same liberties as a smaller person will never have the same effect. The right fit is important for everyone, but it is more critical here. After all, surely, you do not want to end up looking like the fat guy in a little coat.
Those of us who are larger, whether we are weightlifters or just carrying some extra pounds are served well with outfits that fit our bodies and don’t shout for attention. Luckily, a few key tips can make life a lot easier. Here is a guide to help the big guys dress better.
Say No to the Skinny Ties
With all that muscular neck and traps, and extra pounds around your midsection, you are surely too wide for these skinny ties. They look good, but won’t be as nice on you. It will seem too small. If you have to wear a tie, then go with one that has a width of around three inches at least to keep the look in proportion. You can also go with a ghost tie by buttoning your shirt all the way to the top, without the neckwear, or you can also leave the top button open for a more casual feel.
Close the Blazer
This seems like a minor issue, however buttoning your sport coat or blazer is the right thing to do for all those who are heavier. It will be less imposing if you have a strong build. It is going to look even better if your jacket is made-to-measure.
Use Neutral Tones
Naturally you are going to stand out from the crowd if you are bigger. However, that may not be a good thing always. You will do well by sticking with a classic look. Go for ascent items instead of big pieces such as trousers or jackets.
Medium Rise Pants for Long Legs
The higher rise will accentuate the long legs and short torso. Balance your proportions by lengthening your torso. You can shift attention away from the fact that you’re 70 percent legs.
Stay Away From Skinny Jeans
Simply put, skinny jeans are for skinny people. They will not work for you if you are bigger in size. This doesn’t just mean if you are fat. You should stay away from skinny jeans if you have muscular thighs and calves as well.
Avoid Horizontal Stripes
You might have heard this before. Horizontal stripes give a perception of width. So they won’t go well with you, unless of course you are trying to show that you are the widest guy around. Stick with solids. They are going to work better.
Make Sure That It Fits
If you wear too big things, it will seem as if you are trying to hide. You will appear more bigger too. Too small, and the outfit will look ridiculous. Wear clothing that fits right. Pay attention to balancing the proportions of your body.
