As part of the plan to develop the main international markets, Corneliani has opened an agency office in Shanghai. The opening coincides with the signing of a franchise agreement that, over the next five years, will see the opening of twenty single brand stores including, in spring 2009, a flagship store of over 350 square meters in Beijing. The new Shanghai headquarters are located near People’s Square, in the exclusive district of Xintiandi. Here the buildings have an unmistakably European flavour, dating back to the colonial period, and have been restructured to accommodate hotels, restaurants, tea rooms, and luxury shops. Corneliani sits on the fifteenth floor of One Corporate Avenue, a building complex overlooking a small artificial lake that separates the residential from the commercial and business zones. Over 200 square meters of showroom are furnished according to the Corneliani store concept kicked off early last year with the opening of the New Bond Street boutique in London. Besides the commercial functions, there will be public relations work and liaison with the local media, as well as the training of sales staff both for the directly managed flagship store, and for staff employed in the distribution network entrusted to local partners.
Over the next 5 years the Corneliani single brand sales network will reach a minimum of 30 franchised sales points that will join the existing five, one of which is fully owned and was opened two years ago in Hangzhou, in the south of China. The company ended 2007 with a consolidated turnover of € 145.8 m compared to 132.2 in 2006, and a net profit of 4.5 m.
