Liverpool condemn fans for unfurling ‘offensive’ Divock Origi banner before Champions League clash at Genk

Travelling supporters unfurled the banner depicting the striker’s head on a naked body, alongside the Champions League trophy.

Origi scored a goal when Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-0 in the final of last season’s competition.

The club said it ‘acted swiftly to have the banner removed’ and also said the image ‘perpetuated a racist stereotype’.

The statement said: “This is completely unacceptable.

“Liverpool Football Club condemns the offensive banner displayed in our section of the ground, prior to kick-off.
