Just days after the 7-2 humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Spurs again capitulated under pressure.

The crisis at Spurs was made all the more worse inside just four minutes at the Amex where Hugo Lloris suffered a dislocated elbow after another howler.

Lloris dropped the ball on the goal line and hurt himself in the process in only the third minute, allowing Neal Maupay to open the scoring, and it only got worse after that as Aaron Connolly’s double gave the impressive Seagulls a deserved three points.

As good as the hosts were, this must go down as one of the worst performances of Mauricio Pochettino’s reign and, following on from Tuesday’s humiliation to Bayern, the dark clouds are mounting over the club.

Pochettino was forced to outline his commitment to the job in the build-up to this match but the result and, more notably, the performance will only lead to more speculation that his time could be coming to an end.

The Argentine revitalised a sleeping giant, taking Spurs from the doldrums of Europa League mediocrity to the Champions League final in the space of five years.

But with the likes of Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld seemingly set to leave for free at the end of the season, it seems as though not all is well in north London. The former Southampton boss even admitted he would have walked away had last season’s final in Madrid against Liverpool ended in victory.

Although it seemed inconceivable a year ago, it seems things have gone stale at Spurs, with a change needed at the helm to shake things up before the season gets underway.

And according to the bookmakers, Jose Mourinho is favourite to replace Poch if he leaves.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager is unlikely to be a popular choice amongst Spurs fans given his allegiance to the Blues and his acrimonious departure from Old Trafford.

But, even at this embryonic stage of the season, it seems as though Tottenham fans may not have much of a choice.

Below, we have listed five reasons why Spurs fans should welcome the Portuguese boss IF Mauricio Pochettino leaves Spurs and IF Daniel Levy sees fit to appoint him.
