Liverpool vs Arsenal: I had better games than scoring four goals against Reds, says ex-Gunners winger Andrey Arshavin

Andrey Arshavin reckons he had better games than scoring four goals in Arsenal’s 4-4 draw at Liverpool ten years ago.

The Russian winger, who joined the Gunners for a then-club-record £15million fee from Zenit St Petersburg in January 2009, tore the Reds apart in the iconic draw.

Liverpool travel to Arsenal on Saturday, in a game which is LIVE on talkSPORT.

Speaking about his four-goal haul, Arshavin told Sky Sports: “For me it was a regular game – nothing special. I did not feel anything special before the game.

“When I came out on to the pitch and was warming up, I thought ‘we will not lose today’. That was the only thing I knew before the game.

“Of course I could not imagine before that game that I would score four goals.

“If you look at the stats, it was my best game. But in terms of playing style, I had some other games that were much better.”

Despite his red-hot start to life at the Emirates, Arshavin returned to Russia just three years after leaving.

The 38-year-old believes reaching the top four should be Arsenal’s target this season.

He said: “It’s difficult to replace a guy (Arsene Wenger) who managed the team for more than 20 years.
