The 24-year-old was a revelation for Villa last season as they were promoted to the top flight through the play-offs.
His performances for club and for Scotland understandably led to interest from other clubs, most notably Manchester United.
It was believed that Villa wanted £50million for the midfielder and United legend Sir Alex Ferguson was pushing for the deal to go through.
The former manager is close friends with McGinn’s grandad Jack and wanted to see him at Old Trafford.
Villa signed the Scotland international from Hibernian last summer and went on to make 45 appearances in all competitions.
He was voted both fans’ player of the season and players’ player of the season.
