“This is exactly the kind of partner we’re excited about bringing to the new Downtown Glenview,” Village President Mike Jenny said at Tuesday night’s Glenview Village Board meeting. “Spiro’s is a long-standing local business that wants to be a part of what we’re trying to do Downtown, and I hope we can do more like this going forward to continue redeveloping the area.”

Spiro’s Deli, which opened in 1962 and moved to its current location on Waukegan Road in the 1990s, will soon call 1880 Glenview Road home, according to officials. It is one of the village’s longest-running family businesses.

The Village Board approved financial agreements at Tuesday’s meeting. The Village is providing a $595,000 loan to be used toward the purchase of the property, and the loan is structured to encourage continuous operation of the restaurant. Spiro’s will be responsible for the construction of the new building in accordance with the Village’s development review process.

Best One Hour Cleaners is currently operating at the location, which is across the street from the Glenview Library. Officials said the plan is for Spiro’s to demolish the existing building and build a new restaurant. The new 1,400-square-foot restaurant will include a deli counter and seat 25 patrons, along with a small outdoor patio.
