Coroner IDs Cyclist Who Died Following Palm Desert Crash

PALM DESERT, CA — A cyclist involved in a Tuesday night crash in Palm Desert did not survive his injuries, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

The crash between the cyclist and a vehicle was reported around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Cook Street and County Club Drive.

When deputies got to the scene, they found the cyclist unresponsive in the roadway suffering from major injuries, according to the sheriff’s department.

He was identified by the coroner as 62-year-old Jay Groth of Indio.

Groth was sent to Desert Regional Medical Center but he died from his injuries about an hour after the crash, the coroner reported.

According to the sheriff’s department, the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash remained at the scene and was cooperative.

No arrests were announced.

The crash circumstances remain under investigation by the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station. The crash investigation required the temporary closure of the Cook Street and Country Club Drive intersection.
