PA Weather: Latest Snowfall Totals Released For Early-Week Storm

PENNSYLVANIA — Parts of Pennsylvania could see some significant snowfall early next week when a winter weather system moves across the state following a mild weekend, according to the National Weather Service’s latest forecast.

While the Philadelphia metro area isn’t likely to see much precipitation, counties north of the city could see between 1-3 inches while the storm could dump up to 6 inches in the Poconos, according to forecasters.

As of Saturday, Monroe, Berks, Lehigh, Northampton and upper Bucks counties were under a hazardous weather outlook calling for possible heavy snow Monday into Tuesday capable of disrupting travel, according to the NWS.

On Monday, forecasters said they’re expecting a slower and stronger storm system to move into the region around 7 p.m. with a bulk of the snow falling Tuesday morning.

“Temperatures along the I-80 corridor may initially be marginal for snow, but as heavier precipitation moves in overnight along with stronger forcing, that area is projected to see snow for the bulk of the event,” the NWS said.

South of I-80, uncertainty remains in the type and amount of precipitation that could fall.

“Precipitation will move in from south to north late Monday evening, beginning as rain for everywhere generally south of I-80,” according to PA Weather Action. “As precipitation rates begin to increase, dynamic cooling will take place from north to south. That will quickly change rain to heavy snow near and just south of I-80 by early Tuesday morning.”

Leading up to the storm, Pennsylvania residents should expect quiet weather and cloudy skies with mild temperatures in the mid-50s to low 60s.
