Hatboro Bakery Banking On Taylor Swift Super Bowl Interest

HATBORO, PA —Last year, Lochel’s Bakery was blitzed by business due to the Philadelphia Eagles playing in the Super Bowl.

This year, the bakery is banking on Taylor Swift.

Co-owner Kathleen Lochel and her team of 25 employees at the York Road bakery are cranking out the sweet treats, making cakes, cookies, and donuts to cover three holidays in four days.

“It’s been a little challenging, but in a good way,” Lochel told Patch Thursday morning.

First up is Super Bowl Sunday. Then comes Fasnacht Day. And then there’s Valentine’s Day.

It’s a holiday triple header.

“It’s crazy. You couldn’t have scripted this,” Lochel said.

Lochel is sad that the Philadelphia Eagles aren’t making a return trip to the Super Bowl. The bakery saw lots of green as business boomed from the Birds and the bakery made everything with something Eagles on it.

“Not having the Eagles kinda stinks,” she said. “It was good for the whole economy. Our numbers might be down some.”

But with no Eagles this year, Lochel hopes that superstar Taylor Swift, who is dating Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce, will draw enough interest in the game that people will be holding Super Bowl parties and getting desserts for the big game.

Sunday’s Super Bowl features the Chiefs against the Sane Francisco 49ers.

The bakery will be prepping Thursday and Friday for the Super Bowl and has individual cookies for sale with each team’s logo on them and cakes with both teams.

The bakery is open Monday and Tuesday to take on the demands of Fasnacht Day, which is Fat Tuesday and the day for donuts.

The bakery sold 18,000 donuts last year and Lochel said she anticipates more this year.

“We have overwhelming demand,” Lochel said.

After those two holidays, everything switches to Valentine’s Day on Wednesday. Expect the bakery to be making everything red.
