Longtime Pittsburgh Radio Personality Abruptly Announces Retirement

PITTSBURGH, PA — Longtime Pittsburgh radio personality and sports journalist Ron Cook announced his retirement Monday on 93.7 FM The Fan.

Cook has been with the sports talk radio station since its inception in 2010.

“It’s been a blast with you guys,” Cook said on the air. He added that while he wants to retire, “it rips my heart out.”

As a writer,Cook started at the Beaver County Times, then went to the Pittsburgh Press and currently writes for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. His first column appeared in 1990; his last will appear in the Post-Gazette on Sunday.

“From the first day 93.7 The Fan signed on the air, Ron brought instant credibility to the station with, not only with reputation as one of the top columnists in the market, but also a trusted voice that sports fans wanted to hear from,” Michael Spacciapolli, Audacy Pittsburgh senior vice president market manager, said in a statement.

Cook plans to move to Florida.
