L’Équipe report today that incoming new manager Igor Tudor has reached an agreement with Marseille club president Pablo Longoria, on a verbal basis, for a two-year contract which will see him take over from Jorge Sampaoli’s after the Argentine’s shock exit on Friday.
The Croatian, who left Hellas Verona after a season in charge in May, is expected in Marseille today to put pen to paper on his deal and take charge of his first training session tomorrow afternoon.
The former Juventus assistant manager quickly emerged as the favourite to replace Sampaoli on Friday, with the former Argentina and Chile manager reportedly leaving over a perceived lack of ambition in the transfer market ahead of next year’s Champions League campaign.
It remains unclear as to when Tudor will be officially announced as manager and when he will be introduced to the press. He will not have the entirety of his coaching staff with him straight away, as Marseille still need to iron out several contract situations.
He will arrive with four members of staff, and a potential fifth so as to bridge the language gap for now. The former Croatian international will also have meetings with the Marseille management in order to plan out for their upcoming transfer business.
