Raid for accused go wrong

According to reports, the policemen, including Sangam Pathak, in charge of Deori police station, were at the home of one Bhushan Pandey, in the early hours of Wednesday, against whom a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued.

Seeing the police, Pandey fled and cops were searching for him inside the house.

It is still unclear how the cops stepped on the infant, the grandchild of Pandey. The police also have not clarified on the case against the accused for which the raids were conducted.

According to some reports, a policeman climbed on the bed where the infant was sleeping and allegedly crushed him to death.

Video goes viral

The incident came to light after a video on the internet showed Pandey claiming that his four-day-old grandchild was crushed to death by the police.

“I fled and the women also rushed out. The policemen started searching the house when the four-day-old child was sleeping there. The baby was crushed and killed,” he is heard saying in the video.

Jharkhand CM orders probe

Following this, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren ordered a probe into the incident.

“It has been alleged that a four-day-old boy died when the police went there to execute two non-bailable warrants issued by the court. Prima facie, external injuries have not been found on the baby’s body. It has been sent for postmortem examination,” Giridih Superintendent of Police Amit Renu told PTI.

“Right now, we don’t have any information that any policeman had crushed the infant. If the allegation is found to be true, the erring personnel will not be spared,” Renu said.

What the postmortem report said

The infant’s postmortem report said that the four-day child’s spleen was ruptured.

Following this, an FIR was lodged against six policemen, and five were suspended.

“An FIR has been lodged against six policemen, including two officers – Sangam Pathak and S K Mandal – in the case with Deori police station in Giridih… Five of them have been suspended,” a police official said.
