Cristiano Ronaldo on December 30 declared that he was joining the Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr. It’s a big deal for the Saudi Pro League and Asian football. But Ronaldo’s arrival means a star player from the club shall need to depart unexpectedly, as per TNN.
Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar has been Al-Nassr’s main weapon for some time and has reportedly mutually agreed to terminate his contract, according to The Daily Mail.
The Saudi Pro League has a rule saying that a club can register no more than 8 foreigners. So in order to accommodate Ronaldo one player needed to be axed Aboubakar was the scapegoat.
Ronaldo came to Al Nassr for a sum of €200 million per year for 2.5 years. It makes him the highest-paid footballer in history.
Ronaldo is yet to debut as he missed the game on January 6 due to a 2-match ban he faced at Manchester United for breaking a fan’s phone in a game vs Everton. He is also not playing vs Al Shabab on January 14. So his debut will be on January 22 vs Al-Ittefaq.
