Given the Belgium international’s contract situation at Stamford Bridge, it makes sense for the Blues to start work on bringing in a new player in that area of the pitch.
Coutinho shone in his time in the Premier League with Liverpool, even if he’s struggled to make the step up since joining Barca last season.
It may well be that the Brazil international would welcome the chance to have another spell in English football and get a key role in this Chelsea side, which may perhaps be better suited to his skill-set than his role in Ernesto Valverde’s squad.
