'If I leave or if I stay, I will be happy' – Hazard open on Chelsea future

With two years left on his deal, the Blues have been keen to tie down the Belgium international in the hopes of fending off a move from Real Madrid

Eden Hazard has revealed that he is open to signing a new contract with Chelsea – but has added that he will be happy regardless of whether he stays at Stamford Bridge or leaves the club for a new destination.

The Belgium international is the joint-top scorer in the Premier League this season and added to his tally for the new campaign with a sensational solo goal to knock title rivals Liverpool out of the Carabao Cup in midweek.

With two years remaining on his deal, Chelsea could be vulnerable to losing their prized asset, who has regularly been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Hazard, though, has indicated that he could be persuaded to stay with the Blues for the foreseeable future.

“I’m happy here,” the striker told BT Sport, adding: “The new manager has come in and we’re enjoying playing with him. So, I think to stay was the right decision.

“I am with Chelsea for now. I have two years left on my contract. I can sign a new deal – but maybe not. I don’t know.

“In my mind, what is important is the next game. That is Liverpool, and then we will see what happens.”

Asked if he could see himself finishing his career with Chelsea, Hazard replied: “Yes. For sure.

“But the possibility is also that, in one or two years, I might leave.

“I like the club and I like the city. The fans, they love me. And my team-mates, I think they love me also!

“So, for me it is easy to stay. But like I say, if I leave or if I stay, I will be happy. This club is now part of my life. We will see.”

Hazard joined Chelsea from Lille, where he won a domestic double, in 2012 and has since won all three major domestic honours with the Blues, including two Premier League crowns in 2014-15 and 2016-17.

He was also a member of the squad that claimed the Europa League in 2012-13.

On the international stage, Hazard played a pivotal role in guiding Belgium to a third-place finish at this year’s World Cup in Russia, scoring in their 2-0 play-off victory over England.

Chelsea face Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend before hosting Videoton in the Europa League on October 4.
