The three-time World Cup-winner saw the PSG man better his caps total this month and now hopes Ney beats his goals total as well
Pele has congratulated Neymar for surpassing the three-time World Cup-winner’s record of 92 Brazil caps – and challenged the PSG man to go after his goalscoring record.
Neymar is destined to make history with the Selecao. At only 26-years-old, he is already third on the list of Brazil’s all-time top goalscorers.
October’s Brasil Global Tour matches against Saudi Arabia and Argentina brought caps 93 and 94 for Neymar, moving him two clear of Pele’s 92.
But Pele still leads the PSG man in goals for their country. With 77 goals in official matches, Pele is still has plenty of breathing space between himself and second-top scorer Ronaldo (62).
Neymar sits 18 goals behind on 59 but Pele said he hopes Brazil’s current captain will go on to take that record, too.
“Congratulations, @neymarjr, on your caps this week,” Pele wrote on Twitter after FIFA championed Neymar’s achievement. “You surpassed my 92,” Pele added, “Now go and get my goals record too – Brazil needs you!”
Neymar will be back in Brazil action next month when the Brasil Global Tour resumes.
