The word “epic” gets thrown around way too frequently, but an unexpectedly epic six-woman tag team match took place this Saturday night as the superstars of WWE NXT invaded Largo, Florida.
Perhaps the greatest women’s wrestler on the planet today, the Japanese legend Io Shirai, made her official NXT in-ring debut teaming with NXT Women’s Champion Kairi Sane and former Ring of Honor star Deonna Purrazzo. Their opponents? Three out of four of the Four Horsewomen — the “Queen of Spades” Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir.
According to fan reports from those in attendance, the trio of MMA newcomers actually scored a huge upset, with Purrazzo eventually taking the pinfall for her team. Lacy Lane and Kacy Catanzaro of American Ninja Warrior fame apparently made the save after the match, chasing off the Horsewomen and celebrating with the remaining babyfaces.
