Last night’s WWE Backstage panel of expert analysts, including Renee Young, Samoa Joe, Paige and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T, had a discussion about the controversial Rusev and Lana storyline that has been unfolding over the past several weeks.

While Renee did talk about fans constantly clamoring for the return of the Attitude Era, and even admitted she loved this kind of angle in WWE, the rest of the panel pretty much universally decided it’s time for the program to end. Here’s a breakdown of that conversation:
Renee Young: “I love this kind of smut in WWE. It’s the kind of thing that draws me in, but I know I’m in the minority on that.”
Paige: “I’m not into it.” … “I do love [Lana], but she was like ‘Men can cheat and do this and that, while I sit at home and I cook, clean and listen!’ Okay sis. You know you don’t do any of those things. I love her, but I’m like, sis don’t be lying! You don’t do those things. She’s beautiful, she does what she wants, but it’s not really for me. I’m not into it.”
Booker T: “We all love the Attitude Era, but if you don’t change with the times, the times will pass you by. The question is not whether this angle is this, or that, but is it something that the WWE Universe wants in 2019? These young guys go out there and it’s all about putting on a show; it’s all about jumping off something, and giving the crowd that ‘This is Awesome’ moment. I don’t think [this angle]is it.”
Samoa Joe: “Attitude Era nostalgia aside – heres the thing for me. I’m having a hard time seeing who comes out on top after this whole thing is said and done. Who looks good when it’s all said and done? I’m really having a hard time trying to find that path to what the big payoff is. It’s going to be interesting to see how they navigate this, because it can be very precarious, very quickly.”
Booker T: “I saw a tweet that said, ‘If you stop this right now we’ll forget it even happened.’ [Laughs]”
Paige: “It’s true though, right!”
