$259K York High Scoreboard On Table: District

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst School District 205 is poised to spend $259,000 on a new scoreboard for York High School’s football field.

On Tuesday, the board plans to vote on spending the money for the 13-by-25-foot full-color video board.

The school’s current scoreboard, which is more than two decades old, is at the end of its lifecycle and has experienced more problems in recent years, according to a district memo last week.

The district staff is recommending a Daktronics model. The company’s scoreboards are found at many high schools, major colleges and professional sports stadiums, the district said.

“To that end, we determined that a larger video board that is easier to see from the bleachers would be a great upgrade from our current setup,” Chris Whelton, the district’s assistant superintendent of finance, said in the memo.

The district hopes to offset the scoreboard’s costs through a primary sponsorship with the company’s name on the arches above the scoreboard.

During events, more advertising would run periodically on the side of the video portion of the scoreboard, the memo said.

The advertising details still need to be worked out, Whelton said. It is unclear how much of the scoreboard’s cost would be offset by advertising.

The board is set to spend $259,000 with Sievert Electric for the purchase and installation of the scoreboard.
