OGC Nice forward Alassane Pléa has become the first Ligue 1 player to follow Juan Mata’s example in offering 1% of his annual wage to charity.
Le Monde report that this will translate into €14,000 a year, but Pléa has decided not to do so through the Common Goal initiative set-up by Manchester United’s Spanish attacking midfielder, but rather allowing his club, OGC Nice, to decide which charity the money goes to.
Pléa explained his decision-making to the aforementioned publication:
“It is partly what Mata has done that made me thinking about the possibility of giving away a percentage of my salary. Simply, from my side, I would prefer to undertake the process through my club because I have complete confidence in the way the money will be used. Which is reassuring.”
