HATBORO, PA —The borough is pulling out all the stops for its last Music in the Meadow of the year even though residents protested fireworks and alcohol allowed at the event.

From 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Music in the Meadow will be held at the Pennypack Community Center, 130 Spring Ave.
The free community event features music, lawn games, food trucks, vendors, community groups, Bucks Bubbles Foam Party, and a fireworks show celebrating the end of summer and the start of the fall season.

The fireworks show will begin around 8 p.m. from a licensed fireworks company.
Borough Council also approved allowing alcohol to be brought to the event.

Council President George Bollendorf said the borough has an open container law but officials asked Police Chief Mark Ruegg to waive the law for the event.
But this celebration didn’t sit too well with some residents who protested the party at a recent council meeting, expressing concerns about the fireworks and the alcohol.
Some residents said that the fireworks would make too much noise for their pets and are too close to properties for fireworks to be shot off in the borough.
Other residents said that the event should not promote alcohol use.
“Allowing people to drink for three hours next to our property is like living next to a bar,” one resident said. “Alcohol and fireworks are going so far from being a passive event.”
Another resident said that the CDC is “totally against” alcohol in public places.
“This is an accident waiting to happen and irresponsible,” the resident said. “This is a crazy problem in our society.”
In preparation for the event, the Hatboro Public Works Department, Hatboro Police Department, Second Alarmers, and the Enterprise Fire Company are enacting a temporary road closure for the loop of West Lehman Avenue, Spring Avenue, and South Chester Avenue.
The closure will allow first responders and emergency personnel to utilize the look for the event. Residents of the loop will continue to have access to their residences except for about 15 minutes during the live fireworks display.
Emergency Services will have multiple stations set up around the event to ensure the general safety of the public.
Borough officials said the public should use the Bank Street parking lot and the trail behind the school to access the event.
It is also the last cruise night.
