Man Touched Buttocks Of Woman With Down Syndrome: Joliet Police

JOLIET — A 36-year-old Joliet man named Michael Symoczki was arrested by Joliet police over the weekend after officers say he became an uninvited guest at a neighbor’s party, touching the buttocks of a 50-year-old woman with Down syndrome and later returned to the gathering throwing rocks, bricks and buckets at one of his neighbors.

Sunday’s incident resulted in criminal charges of battery, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said at around 10:15 p.m., officers were called to the 3500 block of Peachtree Court for a fight. Police said officers learned that Symoczki was intoxicated and had walked into the backyard of a neighbor that was having a party while uninvited. Peachtree Court is near Gaylord Road in Joliet, not far from Crest Hill.

Police say they believed Symoczki had touched the 50-year-old woman. Others at the party told Symoczki that he was not welcome and to leave, and he refused, according to police.

Officials said Symoczki also threw a bag of ice at his neighbor’s vehicle. He was then physically removed from the party by other male guests of the party and a struggle ensued.

Symoczki suffered injuries from the altercation with the neighbors, according to police, and a Joliet Fire Department ambulance arrived to treat him, but he refused further medical treatment and continued to yell at the neighbors while in the presence of Joliet police.

The guests of the party left and Symoczki was taken inside by family as the officers cleared the scene at this time.

A short time later, Joliet police were called back to Peachtree Court.

This time, arrest reports show, Symoczki began throwing rocks, bricks and buckets toward his neighbor’s home and yelling threats at them. The victim’s home sustained damage to the siding. Symoczki initially refused to open his door for the officers, but then later exited, and he was placed into custody without incident.

Symoczki was given his notice to appear in court for the three criminal charges.
