HOBOKEN, NJ — Roads were temporarily closed and a school had to shelter in place in southwest Hoboken Friday afternoon when a man barricaded himself in his apartment, officials confirmed.
Public safety spokesperson Marci Rubin said, “An individual barricaded himself into his apartment earlier this afternoon, forcing surrounding roads to be closed to vehicular traffic. HPD officers responded, and the situation was resolved safely, and roads have reopened.”
She said there were no injuries reported, and no hostages.

Community members said that the Connors School in that area of town was temporarily locked down. Rubin deferred to school officials for more details.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Christine Johnson said the matter had nothing to do with Connors School, but police that asked the school to temporarily shelter in place.

“The police asked that Connors be put into a Shelter in Place (not a lockdown) due to a situation occurring in the neighborhood,” Johnson said in an email. “Whatever was going on didn’t have anything to do with Connors or anything else in the district.”
As of 4:30 p.m. Friday, roads were all open and there was no police presence seen near the school.
