Wells Fargo To Close A Branch In New Haven

NEW HAVEN, CT — Wells Fargo will be closing another of its branches in Connecticut, this time in New Haven.

A spokesman for the San Francisco-based bank confirmed it will be shuttering its 388 Whalley Avenue location at 11 a.m. on May 15.

“Until then, customers can use the branch and bank with us as they always have. After that, customers can use our New Haven Chapel Street branch located at 956 Chapel Street, New Haven, approximately 1 mile away. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause,” spokesman Kenrick Thomas said in an email.

The wind-down of Wells Fargo brick-and-mortar operations in New Haven continues a Connecticut trend begun last year by the countinghouse, when it closed branches in Monroe, Darien, Danbury and Waterbury. Last week, the bank announced the scheduled closure of a branch in Bethel.

Thomas said the decision of the banking leviathan to close more windows in Connecticut was not one it took lightly.

“Wells Fargo remains committed to New Haven, Connecticut, and branches continue to play an important role in the way we serve our customers in combination with our online and mobile channels and ATMs. As customer preferences and transaction patterns change, so will our branches. All of this does not take away the importance of our customers and the communities we serve.,” Thomas said.
