Railroad Canyon Road Closes In Lake Elsinore Due To Crash, Flooding

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — At least one crash, along with flooding, on Railroad Canyon Road in Lake Elsinore forced a full closure of the street Monday.

The shutdown from Grape Street to Church Road will remain in place “for an unknown period of time,” the city of Canyon Lake shared Monday evening. “Please stay out of the area and find an alternate route.”

The Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station shared a photo on social media of a crash and flooding on Railroad Canyon. The law enforcement agency initially reported that only eastbound lanes were shuttered but the city later announced both directions were closed.

There were no updates on any crash injuries.

According to Wildomar city officials, the Railroad Canyon road crash left a water main broken amid the storm.

Monday afternoon the city of Lake Elsinore announced Camino Del Norte, from Main Street to the intersection of Dexter Avenue and 3rd Street, was also closed in both directions due to flooding. There was no word when that roadway might reopen.

According to National Weather Service data, Lake Elsinore received 1.74 inches of rainfall from 7 p.m. Sunday to 7 p.m. Monday. More rain is expected overnight through Tuesday. A flood watch remains in effect for the city through 4 p.m. Tuesday.
