Man Killed In Santa Monica Shooting, Suspect Arrested

SANTA MONICA, CA — A man died in a Santa Monica hospital after he was shot inside his car Thursday morning, authorities said.

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, officers received a report of a shooting at about 10:25 a.m. in the 2600 block of 29th Street. Officers located the victim, who was identified as 46-year-old Edward Williams III, seated in his parked car.

Paramedics transported Williams to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead due to his injuries.

Witnesses who saw the suspect leave pointed police in the general direction of her path of travel, SMPD said.

“SMPD Detectives worked tirelessly throughout the day to identify and locate the suspect who was taken into custody this morning in West Los Angeles,” SMPD said in a statement.

The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Kayla Mackey. According to police. Mackey was experiencing homelessness at the time of her arrest.
