Ten players to watch out for at Rugby World Cup 2021

With Rugby World Cup 2021 (played in 2022) a day away, there are plenty of players set to break out on the world stage.Hosts New Zealand will be out to claim their sixth title, however, face stiff competition in number-one ranked England and dark horses France.Meanwhile, the Wallaroos are amongst a host of teams looking to shock the top teams and make a run for the title. With this in mind, Rugby.com.au looks at ten players to keep an eye out for across the World Cup tournament.Australia: Georgina FriedrichsFriedrichs has arguably been the form player for the Wallaroos in 2022.The Waratahs centre was one of 11 to debut at the start of the year and has thrived at the International thanks to her blistering speed and brutal running game.Jay Tregonning’s attack runs through the former Sevens star and she showed in Adelaide what she can do if they can get consistent and quality ball to the 27-year-old throughout the tournament.Canada: Sophie de GoedeTo steal a baseball term, de Goede is the closest thing to a ‘five tool’ player in Rugby, meaning the Canadian skipper can do it all. From brutal hit-ups to picture-perfect goalkicking, the dual-sport athlete is the leader of an impressive forward pack out to do damage across the tournament.Given her pedigree, with both parents in Rugby Canada’s Hall of Fame, it's clear to see the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and the 23-year-old can set herself up as a star of the future with a strong showing in New ZealandEngland: Emily ScarrettScarrett is looking to add to an already remarkable Rugby resume in her quest to cement her standing as one of the best players in Women’s Rugby history. The 2019 World Player of the Year glides around the park, playing an essential role in their 25-game winning streak. Her World Cup experience is invaluable, having almost single-handedly won England the 2014 final against Canada with 16 points in the 21-9 victory.France:  Caroline DrouinCaroline Drouin is the centre-piece behind France’s push for a maiden World Cup victory, guiding the team around at flyhalf.Drouin is in red-hot form, nominated for World Rugby’s Player of the Year in 2021.Her partnership with Laure Sansus is one of the best in the world, with the duo lighting up teams in this year’s Six Nations.Fiji: Vitalina NaikoreNaikore represents a new breed of Fijiana talent looking to establish themselves on the world stage. The flying winger had a breakout Super W campaign, scoring a hat-trick in the Final to secure victory over the NSW Waratahs. In their first World Cup, Naikore and Fijiana enter as true dark horses, looking to catch out much-favoured opponents France and England with their rapid style of Rugby.Italy: Beatrice RigoniBeatrice Rigoni is the mastermind behind the Italians' attack, looking to create more magic in New Zealand. The playmaker has been a staple of Italian Rugby since making her debut as an 18-year-old in 2014, a key piece in a settled core of experienced players, with nine players with more than 50 test caps.Rigoni's perfect mix of deft passing and barnstorming running establish the centre as a key threat to shut down for opposition teams.New Zealand: Stacey FluhlerFluhler returns to the 15-a-side game eager to back up her efforts in 2017 and deliver a sixth World Cup title on home soil. After a below-average year for the Sevens program for their lofty expectations, the centre is one of several to make the move back hoping to end the year on a high.Whilst Portia Woodman and Ruby Tui often dominate the plaudits, Fluhler is deadly with ball in hand, capable of producing a lethal step or burst of speed to get away from the defence.Scotland: Emma OrrOrr is the next big thing in Scottish Rugby, hungry to announce herself on the world stage. The 19-year-old made her debut for Scotland in the Six Nations before making the switch to Sevens for the Commonwealth Games. In her four appearances for Scotland, she already has shown her class and will be looking to take valuable experience from the World Cup into the future.USA: Alev KelterAlev Kelter is one of the key leaders on an experienced USA side looking to make a deep run at this year’s World Cup.The two-time Olympian is as expositive as ever when running the ball, accompanied nicely by a deft kicking game.Kelter flourished at Saracens last season and will once again marshal the attack around the park.Wales: Jasmine JoyceJoyce is one of the most electric players in open space in World Rugby.Wales’ attack revolves around the speedy winger and it’s easy to see why, with the 26-year-old blistering with ball in hand.Joyce was one of several Welsh players handed professional contracts at the start of the year.Click Here:
