Customers who visited the store last year were able to see the large structure being built throughout the summer and fall, which was partially finished around the holidays.

Store Spokesperson Meghan Bell said the garden center officially opened to customers Friday.

“Our trees, shrubs, hearty frost-resistant flowers and Easter plants are now for sale outside of the garden shop,” Bell said, “along with hard goods, soils, fertilizer and mulch.”

Inside the large shop, customers can purchase bird feeders, fertilizer, tools, plant food, garden decorations and more.

Plans for the Westport Avenue store’s expansion were announced in summer 2021, which included the new garden center.

As work on the shop continued in the fall of 2022, the store constructed displays of pumpkins, mums and other seasonal items that were mainly sold outside the construction site.

Renovation work inside the store began in January and will continue through most of the year.

“We are hoping to have the inside of the [Norwalk] store completely renovated by the holidays,” Bell said.

In January, Bell said updates to the store’s bakery are scheduled to be finished in April. Other updates planned for this year include second floor party spaces, kitchen updates and a pizza, ice cream and coffee service area, as well as a new farmers market area.

She also noted maintaining great customer service during the renovation period has been top of mind for the Leonard family.

“All renovations are being completed overnight when the store is not open,” Bell said. “Our store leadership is working hand in hand with our construction team to make sure that the renovations do not impact product selection, quality or the customer experience.”
