Bystanders Who Made Videos Of Injured Minor Girl In Kannauj Instead Of Helping, Face Arrest

Police in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh have booked around 15-20 individuals who made videos of a 12-year-old girl who was injured and bleeding.

The FIR was registered in Gursahaigunj Police station on Friday and four people have been identified from a video and efforts were on for their arrest, police said.

Police wants to set an example 

The FIR has been lodged under Indian Penal Code sections 228 A (disclosure of the identity of the victim of certain offences), 354C (voyeurism) and 505(2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) and the Information and Technology Act.

Bhanu Bhaskar, ADG (Kanpur zone) termed the actions of the people who refused to help the injured girl as ‘shameful’ and said they want to set an example so that people realise that they should help others in need rather than making videos.

In the video, that surfaced on Tuesday, bystanders were seen recording videos of the injured minor.

The onlookers can be heard asking whether the police were informed. Another asked for the police chief’s number. But the filming continued with no attempts to help the girl.

The girl had to wait for help until the police arrived.

In another video, a policeman was seen taking the girl to an auto rickshaw to take her to the hospital.

Girl had gone to purchase a piggy bank  

The girl went out to purchase a piggy bank on Sunday but did not return home after which her family members started searching for her.

When the guard of a guest house saw the girl soaked in blood and squirming in pain, he informed the police.

The girl is undergoing treatment at a Kanpur hospital and her condition is said to be stable.

Accused still on the run

Meanwhile, the suspect – who was seen

talking to the minor girl

in the CCTV footage of the guest house – is still on the run.

Four relatives of the accused who helped him to flee have been arrested by the police.

Initially, it was suspected the 12-year-old girl was raped by the accused and an FIR was registered under Sections 363 (kidnapping), 376/ 511 (attempt to rape), 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 7 and 8 of the POCSO Act.

However, the medical examination has ruled out rape. Police said that the accused had attacked the girl after he failed to sexually assault her.
