In a shocking development, a 17-year-old girl was killed in Maharashtra by her father and uncle, who hanged her on a tree and then burned her body on a pyre to get rid of the evidence.
The alleged honour killing happened on Tuesday in Pirpimpalgaon village under Jalna taluka in Maharashtra, the free press journal reported.
The minor girl Suryakala Santosh Sarode had eloped from the house earlier this week with her boyfriend, who was her distant relative.

Father promised marriage on her return
The victim’s father then asked her to return and assured her that they would marry the couple as per the rituals at a nearby temple.
Upon this, the girl reached her home, where all the wedding arrangements were made with limited relatives around.
Marraige halted over dowry clash
When the couple was at the ‘mandap’ for the marriage ceremony, a disagreement ensued between the two families over gifting land as dowry. As a result, the marriage was halted, reported news18.com.
Enraged by the embarrassment, the girl’s father and uncle dragged her from the mandap to a tree near their house. They then tied a knot to her neck to the tree, assaulted her, and hanged her to death, fearing disgrace in society.
Attempts to destroy evidence
In the evening, they got the girl’s body down, burned it on a pyre, and put the ashes in a bag to destroy the evidence. As per reports, all of it was done to make the death look like suicide.
However, no one in the family protested the horrifying act. It was only after a local from the village intimated the police station that the cops arrested both the accused. They were sentenced to three days of judicial custody. Further investigations are underway.
