Shreyas Iyer, who was out due to a back injury, has been cleared by the BCCI medical team to join the Indian squad for the 2nd Test vs Australia in Delhi starting on February 17, as per TOI.
“Shreyas Iyer has successfully completed his rehab at the National Cricket Academy following his back injury and has been cleared by the BCCI Medical Team,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement to the media.
“Shreyas will join the squad in New Delhi ahead of the second Test of the Mastercard Australia tour of India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” the statement added.
Iyer did go to Nagpur for the 1st Test but had to leave for the NCA in order to recover.
A bad back resulted in Iyer not playing since the ODI series vs New Zealand in January.
India lead the Test series 1-0 after winning the opening Test by an innings and 132 runs and inside 3 days too. It remains to be seen if Iyer finds a place in the playing xi as the management may not want to change a winning combination.
India must win by a 2-game margin to assure themselves a place in the WTC final and not rely on other results. Australia have not won a Test series in India since 2004 and have won only 1 Test in their last 16 on Indian soil.
