A major political issue in The United States this week has been that of the disappearance of Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi, a resident of The U.S. who recently entered a Saudi Arabian consulate to pick up marriage paperwork and never came out.
Following the disappearance, Turkish leaders accused Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of orchestrating a plot to kidnap and murder Khashoggi, who had previously been critical of Saudi Arabia in his writings.
The Washington Post article furthered brought U.S. President Donald Trump into the fold, questioning whether or not Trump’s unwavering support of bin Salman had helped contribute to Salman’s often erratic decision-making. Following the disappearance of Khashoggi, the ensuing public outcry has put pressure on the Trump administration and Britain, two of Saudi Arabia’s most committed Western allies, to press their Saudi counterparts for answers.
Additionally, entities such as The New York Times and Viacom have pulled out of upcoming events scheduled to take place in Saudia Arabia, leaving people to question whether or not WWE will proceed with its planned Crown Jewel event taking place in Riyadh on November 2nd.
WWE has since issued a statement to PWInsider.com regarding the matter, noting “we are currently monitoring the situation.”
